Civic Education Seminar For K-12 Teachers

The Taft Institute for Government is offering a new 2007 seminar on civic education to promote greater knowledge and awareness and more active participation in American politics through a combination of study, discussion, research, debate, hands-on curriculum development and face-to-face dialogue with local and national political representatives and leaders for teachers of social studies in kindergarten through the 12th grade.

This year's program focuses specifically on the 2008 "everything" elections for mayor, Congress, and president, providing teachers and their students with instructional ideas and materials, an election simulation game, and many other activities.

A second focus will be on current issues in American foreign policy, particularly the war in Iraq, using materials from the Brown University Choices Project. Guest speakers include political leaders, academic scholars, award-winning teachers, lobbyists and analysts.

Teachers can earn three graduate credits in education (SEYS) at Queens College. To apply make your check for the $100 registration fee payable to The Taft Institute for Government. Reserved space is limited.

For an application, or more information, contact either Professor Jack Zevin or Michael Krasneer at Queens College, 718- 997-5546.
