Deplores Terrorism Sharing what is on my mind concerning what has been published in the Gazette and what I have heard on TV or on the radio are important ways to let the readers know my thoughts on various important topics. The several articles that appeared in the March 7 issue of the Gazette really showed how our lawmakers on the state, city and federal level are trying to enhance the positive qualities of life, and in addition to protect the health, safety and property and life of all New Yorkers. I was really pleased to read that a new traffic control tower will be erected at La Guardia Airport while this is an already overdue need. Air traffic has increased by leaps and bounds and the need of a new air traffic control tower has become essential to promote safe, efficient flights. I applaud Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr. for his efforts. I applaud our governor and other state lawmakers for their tedious work in fostering legislation to protect children from sex offenders. These sex offenders need further supervision, counseling, detention and close scrutiny since they pose a danger to the lives of children. In fact, once out of prison and unsupervised, these sex offenders can strike again, snuffing out the lives of innocent children. This is a move in the right direction in promoting the safety of children. Lastly, I agree with our mayor and all of the federal lawmakers in the continuance of the TRIA, which should be permanently enacted. Our city is so vulnerable to terrorism, and its small businesses, stock markets, buildings, landmarks, businesses and economy must be safeguarded and ensured in time of terrorism, whether domestic, biological, radiological, nuclear, or conventional by international terrorists. We must continue to be the greatest city of the world. Our city is a target and I heard on TV that our subways must be given more mindfulness. Airlines have security. Anyone according to the news, can bring packages of anything into our subways. Homeland security money from the federal government must be increased so that millions of subway riders are not put in harm's way.
Life is precious and all of the above proposals will enhance it, protect it and prevent harm and devastation. |
