Rally Brings Together Senior Mugging Victims
Senator Serphin R. Maltese (Queens) and Peter Cardella, founder of the Peter Cardella Senior Center in Ridgewood, Queens, hosted a rally for seniors to help empower them and keep them safe in our communities. The rally brought together the two courageous women, 101-year-old Rose Morat and 85-year-old Solange Elizee, who were both recently mugged in Queens. They were presented with proclamations honoring their bravery and treated to a stretch limo ride and a special luncheon in their honor. They both said they "felt like brides." "We cannot allow our seniors to be targeted and assaulted simply because they are not physically able to defend themselves", said Senator Maltese, a former Assistant District Attorney and Deputy Chief of the Homicide Bureau. "The rally helped empower seniors and teach them skills that could literally save their life."
