Playground Of The Future
P.S. 85 Breaks Ground On $1 Million Playground With Climbing Wall, Greenhouse Councilmember Peter F. Vallone Jr. visited P.S. 85, named after his grandfather, Judge Charles Vallone, to help break ground on a new playground that will serve both the school and the surrounding community. When completed, the $1 million project will house typical playground equipment- a basketball court, a track and monkey bars- but also a gazebo, an Astroturf field and a rock climbing wall. "This equipment will be a great asset to the children of this neighborhood. That being said, I can't wait to try that climbing wall," Vallone said. "Our students deserve not only the best resources inside the classroom, but outside it as well. Children that are active and healthy learn better and become more fulfilled adults." Vallone joined with children and administrators to celebrate the beginning of construction on the playground, which is located directly behind the school. Depending on the weather, construction will be completed in 4-6 months. The money for the project came through grants from the Dell Foundation and Asphalt Green. Both are dedicated to helping foster childhood development. No public money was used to finance this public project.
