Search Warrants Bring Valentine's Day 'Heartache' "Operation Heartache" was true to its name February 14 for the subjects of three search warrants. Under the direct supervision of 114th Precinct Commanding Officer Inspector Brian McCarthy, a warrant for a commercial establishment at 37-01 31st Ave., was executed, resulting in one arrest for criminal possession of stolen property. Another warrant was executed at 33-02 31st Ave., resulting in two arrests for criminal possession of stolen property, and another at 24-01 31st St., resulting in four arrests for untaxed cigarettes, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a weapon. The search warrant locations were chosen based on prior debriefings and investigative measures that led to reasonable suspicion that the employees/owners of the commercial establishments knowingly purchased stolen property for the purpose of resale. The second phase of Operation Heartache brought officers of the 114th Precinct to 14 locations where employees or owners were suspected of selling alcoholic beverages to minors. Nine arrests were effected for each failing location and charged with a penal law misdemeanor. The objective of Operation Heartache was to publicly demonstrate at multiple locations the professional methods utilized to eliminate interior conditions which negatively impact upon quality of life in Astoria. This operation included the 9th, 10th, and 11th search warrants conducted by the 114th Precinct in 2007. Also on Valentine's Day, a 31-year-old female was observed offering herself to the drivers of numerous vehicles at 9th Street and 38th Avenue and was charged with loitering and prostitution and resisting arrest. At the same location, a 52-year-old Hispanic male was charged with patronizing a prostitute after he offered to pay money in exchange for sexual favors. At 25-02 31st St., a 24-year-old white male was charged with criminal mischief after he broke a storefront window. Another 24-yearold white male was charged with menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and petit larceny after he was observed stealing beer and threw a bottle at a victim. 114th Police Precinct Blotter Highlights Monday, February 19: + A 51-year-old white male was charged with menacing, assault and criminal possession of a weapon after he threw a glass vase at a victim at 26-26 18th St. + Three white males, one 12 years old and two 14 years old, were charged with criminal mischief, making graffiti and possession of a graffiti instrument after they were observed making graffiti with a graffiti instrument without permission at 31-10 24th Ave. + A 17-year-old white male was charged with reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in public after he was observed pushing a victim and causing him to slip and fall. The perpetrator was also found in possession of a bottle of rum. The incident occurred at 36th Street and Ditmars Boulevard. Sunday, February 18: + A 31-year-old Hispanic male punched a victim in the face and was charged with assault and harassment. The incident occurred at 11-38 31st Dr. + A 30-year-old Hispanic male identified himself as a police officer, stole a victim's wallet and attempted to escape when he was arrested at 30-97 41st St. He was charged with criminal impersonation, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and escape. + A 21-year-old black female was charged with obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after she attempted to prevent officers from arresting a 39-year-old black male who was being arrested for disorderly conduct. The incident occurred at 41-05 Vernon Blvd. Saturday, February 17: + A 36-year-old Asian male attempted to drive away from 24-39 Steinway St. while receiving a parking ticket, nearly striking a police officer. He was charged with reckless endangerment. + A 53-year-old white male was charged with assault and criminal possession of weapon after he pushed a victim and cut the victim's hand with a hacksaw at 30-42 23 St. Friday, February 16: + Two 16-year-old Hispanic males were charged with robbery, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a weapon after they struck and kicked a victim in the face and forcibly removed the victim's property and were also found in possession of a large folding knife. The incident occurred at 31st Street and Hoyt Avenue North. + A 43-year-old Hispanic male was charged with assault and harassment after he punched a victim and struck the victim with a wooden stick to the face at 31-17 12th St. + A 38-year-old Hispanic male was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, operating an unlicensed bottle club, unlicensed warehouse liquor storage and sale of alcohol beverages without a license when he was found in control of an establishment at 25-94 Steinway St. without a license to sell alcohol. He was also found in possession of crack cocaine. + A 26-year-old Hispanic male broke a window at 21-54 43rd St. and was found in possession of marijuana. He was charged with criminal mischief and unlawful possession of marijuana. Thursday, February 15: + A 32-year-old Asian female was charged with assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon after she struck a victim multiple times in the face with a cordless phone. The incident occurred at 8-15 27th Ave. + A 13-year-old Hispanic male was charged with arson after he was observed lighting paper on fire in a bathroom at I.S 126, 31-51 21st St. + A 29-year-old Hispanic male was charged with possession and sale of unstamped cigarettes and violation of a local law after he was found selling untaxed cigarettes at 31-36 14 St. Borough Blotter COMPILED BY LIZ GOFF 108 Precinct (LIC, Sunnyside, Woodside) Paint The Town Red Cops arrested a 23-year-old Queens man on Valentine's Day, after he tossed red paint on a Bronx man and splattered a car parked nearby. Police said Niaquon Hinton seemed to appear from nowhere at 7:45 a.m., when he tossed the paint at the Bronx man who was walking along 43rd Road. Passersby grabbed Hinton and held him for police, who discovered the paint had splattered the car. Hinton was charged with harassment and criminal mischief. If convicted he could face up to two years in prison. 109 Precinct (Flushing, Whitestone, College Point) Lovers Brawl In Flushing Police arrested a 20-year-old Flushing man on February 13, and charged him with attacking his live-in girlfriend during an argument inside their apartment on February 4. Matthew Menina allegedly shoved his girlfriend into a wall at their 146th Street apartment when the argument turned violent. Medina, who fled the scene and was arrested when police officers caught him last week, authorities said. He was charged with assault and harassment at his arraignment at Kew Gardens Criminal Court. Help Find 'Appliance' Thiefs Detectives at the 109th Precinct Squad are seeking help from the public to identify and locate a pair of burglars who broke into a College Point residence on November 8, 2006, and fled with $4,000 worth of new appliances. Police said two men allegedly gained entrance to the residence at 122-14 25th Ave. through a rear basement door which is the same door they used to remove the appliances from the residence. The first suspect is described as a white male, 30 to 35 years old, 5-feet, 8-inches tall and 160 pounds. His accomplice is described as a while male, 30 to 35 years old, 5-feet, 9-inches tall and about 165 pounds. Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call the CRIMESTOPPERS Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. There is a $2,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects. Wife Accesses Husbands E-mail Cops arrested a 28-year-old Flushing woman last week, after she hacked into her estranged husband's e-mail to determine if he had married another woman. Police said Siya Huassain, a computer-data specialist and "jilted wife", gained access to her husband's Yahoo account, downloaded photos and forwarded e-mails. Huassain was charged with computer tampering at her arraignment at Kew Gardens Criminal Court. |
