Queens Boulevard Extended Care Facility hosted a reception to honor James Keane Sr., a resident since June, 2002, on Tuesday, January 30 on the occasion of Keane's becoming a winner in the Visiting Nurse Service of New York 2007 Patient Art Calendar contest.
VNS staff held over 49 "Art Days" in community centers, hospitals and nursing facilities all over the city. The art contest set a new record for entries, with more than 600 submissions. Artists asked the patients to depict the four seasons through their own perspective. All of the art pieces featured in the 2007 calendar represent diversity of life perspectives from patients who have embraced the therapeutic value of art.
Residents, Keane's family, staff, and the administration of the 280-bed long and short term rehab center and adult day care facility at 61-11 Queens Boulevard, Woodside, together with VNS Account Manager Barbara Neocleous, enjoyed the opportunity to recognize Keane's artistic talents.
Late last year, Keane's work was accepted for the New York State Health Facilities Association 2007 calendar. This was the second year artwork was selected by NYSHFA to illustrate a calendar.
