Commerce Bank Mural Depicts Corona History

The mural in the Commerce Bank Jackson Heights branch, made with a photograph taken in 1910 and provided courtesy of the Bob Stonehill Collection, depicts a Corona Men's Baseball game taking place at 99th Street and Jackson Avenue, now Northern Boulevard.

Banking customers who enter the Commerce Bank location at 94-15 Northern Blvd., Jackson Heights will discover a bit of the area's history in a large, colorful wall mural. The mural is based on a historical photograph that was taken in 1910 and depicts a Corona Men's Baseball game taking place at 99th Street and Jackson Avenue, now Northern Boulevard. Different murals appear throughout the locations in the Commerce network. The 7.5-foot by 13.5-foot murals are created by colorizing and enhancing old black and white photographs. Photos are digitally processed by computer and printed on heavy-duty paper. The printed paper is then applied like wallpaper.

Commerce Bank believes in preserving the heritage of local communities which have contributed to the growth of a region.
