Correction Officer Civil Service Exam Scheduled

State Senator George Onorato (D-Long Island City) announced on Wednesday, January 31 that a civil service examination for those interested in becoming New York State correction officers will be held on April 14 with an exam filing deadline of February 26.

Correctional officers work throughout New York state in various facilities of the NYSDOCS, and are charged with overseeing the custody, security, safety and well being of inmates. Those interested in becoming correction officers must be 21 years old on or before the date of their official appointment to the position. Correction officer candidates must also be high school graduates or hold high school equivalency diplomas, be United States citizens and be New York state residents at the time of employment.

Applications to take the April 14 civil service exam must be postmarked no later than February 26, 2007, and must be accompanied by a $30 filing fee.
