114th Police Precinct Blotter Highlights
Compiled by Linda Wilson
Both ends of the age spectrum were represented in arrests recorded at the 114th Precinct. On Saturday, January 27 an 11-year-old Hispanic boy was arrested and charged with criminal mischief after he was observed using a traffic device to smash the windshield of a victim's vehicle and another victim's house window at 34th Avenue and 29th Street. Later that same day, an 80-year-old man was one of four white males charged with criminal trespass after they were found sleeping in the ATM lobby of a bank at 31-01 31st St. The other men were 64, 52 and 35 years old.

It wasn't a great day for street vendors, either. A 23-year-old Hispanic male and 37-year-old Hispanic female selling cotton candy and balloons to passersby at Northern Boulevard and 48th Street without possession of a general vendor's license were charged with unlicensed general vendor. And a 29-year-old white male in control of a bar at 33-22 28th Ave. operating after 4 a.m., at which time the bar is unlicensed to sell alcohol, was charged with after-hours sale of alcohol and criminal nuisance.

The only traffic stop of the day to make the blotter was a 35-year-old Hispanic male, stopped at 35th Street and 28th Avenue for driving with a defective brake light. A DMV check revealed his license was revoked for insurance lapse; he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator and having no license.

On Wednesday, January 24, a 53- year-old white female exchanged money with an undercover officer and offered a tarot card reading at 32-14 30th Ave. She was charged with petit larceny and fortune telling.

Thursday, January 25:

A 34-year-old Hispanic male entered premises at 38-26 21st St., displayed a knife and demanded his car be fixed. He was charged with menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment.

As a result of the execution of a search warrant, two black males 58 and 60 years old were arrested inside 3-13 27th Ave. after controlled buys of untaxed cigarettes were conducted on three occasions. They were also in possession of gambling devices and receipts. They were charged with promoting gambling and evading cigarette tax.

A 22-year-old Hispanic female standing at the intersection of 11th Street and 38th Avenue waving to passing vehicles and obstructing traffic told police she was "trying to make some money". She had a crack pipe on her person and an active warrant in her name and was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and loitering for prostitution.

Sunday, January 28:

At 31-42 38th St., a 32-year-old white male threatened to cause bodily harm to a victim and kicked the victim's vehicle, causing more than $250 in property damage- and causing annoyance and alarm to the victim. He was charged with criminal mischief, menacing, and disorderly conduct.

Three Hispanic men 21, 24 and 25 years old on a public sidewalk in front of 30-08 Steinway St. were charged with disorderly conduct after they refused to comply with a lawful police order.

Two black males 18 and 20 years old and a Hispanic male 20 years old were found in a building at 540 Main St., Roosevelt Island unlawfully and without permission. The officer responding smelled a strong odor of marijuana and a small joint was on the floor. All three were charged with criminal trespass and unlawful possession of marijuana.

On Monday, January 29, a 25-yearold white male was repeatedly asked by an officer to leave the intersection of 34th Street and 31st Avenue and did not comply. He was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

A 42-year-old white male was observed removing a quarter dispensing machine from a wall at 21-26 Broadway and attempting to conceal it inside a laundry bag on Tuesday, January 30. He was charged with criminal mischief, criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny. The change machine had $369 inside when it was recovered.

On Wednesday, January 31, an officer observed a 31-year-old black female for approximately 20 minutes as she stopped several moving vehicles at 12th Street and 38th Avenue, obstructing vehicular traffic, and engaged in conversation with male drivers. Upon further investigation, she had four condoms in her possession and also had six open warrants. She was charged with loitering for prostitution and disorderly conduct.

On the same day, at I.S. 204, 36-41 28th St., a 14-year-old black female was charged with assault and harassment after she struck a victim in the head with a closed fist, causing pain and swelling.

And in a variation of the shoplifting game, a 36-year-old Hispanic female was observed by store security at 48-18 Northern Blvd. peeling the price sticker off an item and replacing it with a lowerprice tag. She was also seen taking sneakers from a shelf in the store and bringing them to a cashier to return for cash without a valid purchase receipt. She was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny.
