Housing Omissions
To The Editor:

With the greatest of interest, I just read the latest issue of the Gazette, and again, it presented very important news that has a profound impact upon the quality of life and safety in our area.

As usual, I would like to share my thoughts with readers of the Gazette.

I am utterly appalled and disappointed upon reading that Queens is not part of the affordable housing list. I cannot fathom why this occurred, since our borough is large, with a diverse population of working class, elderly, immigrants, and people who live from paycheck to paycheck. Many people spend their entire income and salary earned on rent, thus medications, food, education and other necessities are then compromised. As I mentioned in earlier letters to the Gazette affordable housing is not a luxury, but shelter is the important human need.

I agree with the non erection of the sanitation facility near LaGuardia Airport. This is a danger, a safety hazard and definitely will compromise the safety of air travelers, surrounding property and may lead to fatalities. God forbid. It is better to be proactive, and forearmed before the building of such a facility. I applaud Gary Ackerman for his advocacy. The FAA should know better now in light of many fatalities on runways and after the 9/11 attacks.
