Gianaris And Commerce Bank Raise Flag At Queens School
Assemblymember Michael Gianaris (r.) as students raise the American flag. Assemblymember Michael Gianaris (D-Queens) and representatives of Commerce Bank raised the American flag on a new flagpole at the Queens Lutheran School, 31- 20 21st Ave. in Long Island City. Commerce Bank provided funding for the school's new flagpole. "It is important for our students to appreciate all that our nation's flag represents, especially when the men and women of our armed forces are in harm's way around the world," Gianaris said. "I am glad we have businesses in our neighborhood that step in to assist when our schools are in need." Also in attendance were Jack W. Rainey, John Antzoulis Peter Sarantos, and Mary Zias of Commerce Bank. In thanking Gianaris and Commerce Bank, Principal Bettye J. Lee of Queens Lutheran School said: "The importance of having such a powerful visible symbol of the country we all have in common and love so much cannot be overstated."
