Christmas Was Quiet, But New Year’s Is Noisy

While Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve were relatively uneventful in the 114th Police Precinct, New Year’s Day was punctuated by a string of arrests, most for some form of DWI or for domestic violence.

Three arrests were made on Monday, December 25. A 44-year-old Hispanic male was charged with assault after he bit and punched a victim at 30-34 49th St.., a 23-year-old Hispanic male was charged with assault after he punched a victim several times at 43-16 34th Ave. and a 42-year-old while male was charged with menacing, aggravated harassment, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance after he threatened a victim at 24-55 Crescent St. and was found to be in possession of a crowbar.

On Sunday, December 31, New Year’s Eve 2006, a 36-year-old black female was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator after she was stopped at a checkpoint at 24th Street and 35th Avenue and was found to have a suspended license. A 39-year-old white male was charged with assault and harassment after he punched a female victim multiple times, shoved her and put a plastic bag over her head, an incident which occurred at 72- 05 Astoria Blvd., and a 23-year-old black male and a 39- year-old black female were both charged with assault and menacing after the male punched the female in the face and the female tried to prevent officers from arresting him. The altercation took place at 26-45 Brooklyn Queens Expressway.

On Monday, January 1, in contrast, police of the 114th Precinct made 13 arrests.

• A 24-year-old Hispanic male was observed on 30th Avenue between 30th and 29th Streets with an open container of beer in public and was unable to produce ID. He was charged with having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in public.

• A 16-year-old Hispanic male was observed at 36- 11 33rd St. with an open container of beer in public. He had no ID, was found with marijuana and was charged with criminal possession of marijuana and having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in public.

• A 36-year-old Hispanic male punched a victim in the face at 34-19 9th St. and was charged with assault and harassment.

• A 27-year-old white male was observed on Steinway Street between 30th and 28th Avenues with an open bottle of champagne in public and without ID. He was charged with having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in public.

• A 23-year-old white male was observed at 34-09 35th Ave. urinating in public and with no ID. He was charged with public urination.

• A 32-year-old white male was observed urinating in public at Astoria Boulevard and 33rd Street and had no valid ID. He was charged with public urination.

• A 26-year-old black male yelled profanities in public at Broadway and 32nd Street and pushed a victim several times. He was charged with aggravated harassment and disorderly conduct.

• A 52-year-old white male was observed sleeping at 31-05 30th Ave. without permission or authority and was charged with criminal trespass.

• Two black females 15 and 19 years old were observed fighting in public at 31st Street and 30th Avenue. Both were charged with assault and disorderly conduct

• A 29-year-old Hispanic man repeatedly banged and kicked a door at 14-04 31st Ave., damaging it. He was charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespass and harassment.

• A 22-year-old white male was observed leaning out of a running vehicle at 24th Road and 21st Street, vomiting into the street while the vehicle came to rest on the curb. He exhibited signs of intoxication and admitted pulling over the vehicle due to illness. He was charged with DWI and unlicensed operator.

• A 38-year-old Hispanic male was charged with petit larceny after he was observed stealing merchandise from 35-01 34th St.

• A 20-year-old Hispanic male was observed on property at 43-01 Berrian Blvd. without permission. He entered a vehicle without permission and drove it into a fence in an attempt to flee. He was found not to have a license and was intoxicated. He was charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, DWI, criminal trespass and refusing to take a Breathalyzer test.

Tuesday, December 26:

• A 32-year-old male was charged with forcible touching and menacing after he touched a victim’s thighs and legs without permission, refused to stop upon request and pushed the victim. The incident took place at 42nd Street and Broadway.

• A 24-year-old Hispanic male was observed operating a vehicle with an inadequate muffler. When he was stopped at 21st Street and 37th Avenue, he was found to have a suspended license. He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator, driving with an inadequate muffler and unlicensed operator.

• A 30-year-old Hispanic male was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny after he was observed stealing merchandise from 50-01 Northern Blvd.

• A 27-year-old Hispanic male was observed at 42nd Street and Broadway exposing himself in public, urinating on a public sidewalk and acting disorderly by blocking pedestrian traffic. He was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, public lewdness and public urination.

Wednesday, December 27:

• A 50-year-old white male was charged at the 114th Precinct station house at 34-16 Astoria Blvd. with criminal contempt after he violated a valid order of protection by threatening a victim.

• A 38-year-old Hispanic male was charged with disorderly conduct after he opened a bag of chips without purchasing the item at 34-39 31st St.

• A 31-year-old Hispanic male was found to be in possession of a forged insurance card from Pennsylvania when he was stopped at 23rd Avenue and 23rd Street. He was charged with possession of a forged instrument.

• A 52-year-old Hispanic male was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny after he was observed stealing property from 50-10 Northern Blvd.

• Two 16-year-old Hispanic males were charged with criminal possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana after they where observed smoking marijuana in public at 30th Road and 46th Street.

• A 31-year-old male was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny after he was observed stealing merchandise from 50-01 Northern Blvd.

• A 40-year-old Hispanic male was observed failing to signal in his vehicle. When he was stopped at 30th Avenue and 14th Street, he was found to have an invalid license. He was charged with unlicensed operator and illegal signal.

Thursday, December 28:

• A 25-year-old Hispanic male was charged with assault and harassment after he punched a victim in the face at 20-10 19th St.

• A 23-year-old white male was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, possession of burglar’s tools and petit larceny after he was found in possession of stolen CDs and a leatherman at Broadway and 36th Street.

• A 28-year-old black male disobeyed a “No Turn” sign at Crescent Street and 34th Avenue and was found to have a suspended license. He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator and failure to obey a traffic device.

Friday, December 29:

• A 25-year-old white male was observed driving a vehicle without headlights on. When he was stopped at 23-28 Steinway St., he exhibited signs of intoxication. He was charged with DWI, equipment violation and unlicensed operator.
