FEMA Extends Flood Relief Deadline; Opens New Recovery Center

Officials at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have extended the deadline for Queens residents who wish to apply for disaster relief for flood damage caused by the August 8 torrential rainstorm to November 16 at a new recovery center located at Lost Battalion Hall in Rego

FEMA, together with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) last week opened the center at 93-29 Queens Blvd. to assist local business owners and residents seeking aid.

Homeowners and business owners may register online at www.fema.gov or by calling 800-621-3362, Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. People with speech or hearing impairments should call 800-462-7585 to register.

After registering online or by telephone, residents and business owners may visit the new center to meet with specialists who can assist with specific questions or requests, or for help to complete an application for a low-cost loan for funds to repair or replace flood damaged property.

FEMA officials said the agency opened the new center to serve storm victims in the Forest Hills/Rego Park area.
