J oey's Place has everything one looks for in a neighborhood Italian restaurant; wonderful food and wine, a friendly, comfortable atmosphere and nightly specials that keep the steady clientele coming back again and again. For nearly 20 years, Joey's Place has been the favorite restaurant of many, conveniently

located on Astoria Blvd. in Jackson

Heights. In fact, many local businesses and airport personnel can often be seen here enjoying a peaceful meal in the dining room or gathering with friends at the convivial bar adjacent to the restaurant. Joey's Place specializes in freshly prepared Italian specialties and steaks too, making this a great place for families and large parties to convene.

Start with a cocktail from the bar or a nice bottle of wine and choose among cold and hot appetizers such as the chef's delicious mussels in garlic and white wine sauce. Warm bread is definitely in order to soak up every savory drop. Clams casino are fresh, baked clams topped with crispy seasoned bread crumbs and bacon, drizzled with a buttery lemon sauce ($8.95). The hot antipasto for two is a hearty sampling of crispy fried calamari, baked clams, stuffed shrimp, fried mozzarella sticks and a half-stuffed bell pepper. Special appetizers of the evening included grilled Portobello mushroom stuffed with melted cheese and eggplant rollatini, filled with fluffy ricotta. Freshly tossed salads such as mozzarella and tomato also start things off nicely.

Besides the regular menu which is composed of pasta, fish, meat and chicken, the list of nightly specials will tantalize you. The chef does an excellent job with sautéed dishes and his veal scaloppini special with broccoli rabe and sundried tomatoes was outstanding. Pan-seared chicken with a bruschetta salad placed on top is

light yet satisfying choice. One of the tried and true favorites is chicken scarpariello, prepared on the spot with mushrooms and a delightful lemony sauce. Shrimp fra diavolo over linguine was the featured pasta dish and everything here is made with the finest quality, fresh ingredients available.

Pasta dishes reign at Joey's Place and one of the most popular dishes is rigatoni with shrimp, diced chicken breast, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes and mushrooms with a light white wine and lemon sauce ($13.95). Angel hair with shrimp, asparagus, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes gets a burst of flavor from a delicate white wine and lemon sauce. Who could resist spaghetti carbonara, or the special tortellini alfredo featured that night?

Joey's serves tender prime rib of beef every night of the week and a 32-ounce T-bone steak for a fraction of what you'd pay elsewhere and best of all, these entrées and other meat or fish entrées come complete with choice of baked potato, homemade fries, rice or pasta and a freshly tossed salad, making Joey's an economical choice for

meal.

Just wait for dessert where the frozen chocolate raspberry temptation lives up to its name. Frozen Mississippi mud pie and cappuccino hazelnut ice cream cake make deciding difficult, but don't forget a rich espresso or coffee to finish your meal.
