Sign Language
To The Editor:
      My family often travels to the Poconos, Pennsylvania area, where I pass several mystifying signs once we cross the Delaware Water Gap on Interstate Route 80. The signs say,"Bridge may be slippery". First of all, there are no bridges. An elevated roadway, at least to me, is not a bridge. The Verrazano or Chesapeake Bay, now those are bridges!

Rehab Our Infrastructure
To The Editor:
      Last week, we woke up to chaos after a severe thunderstorm and tornado. Streets, homes and subway lines were flooded. The New York subway system was shut down for virtually an entire day, while millions of dollars of damage was done to homes and lives were put at risk. Slowly but surely, the city's entire infrastructure is falling apart.

      City Hall seems to have decided to deal with the pesky problem of franchises and concessions, which exist mostly in parks and other public spaces, by eliminating the public from the public review process.

      City Councilman James Gennaro (DQueens) has proposed a law to the City Council which will ban smoking in a car with children. Well, I think his heart is in the right place, but he may not have thought it through and what it will cost the people of this city.

      A week or so ago, as I was finishing up a work project on my computer, I was literally startled out of my chair by something that sounded like a tuba crossed with a screeching cat next to my ear. That awful noise was then repeated about every two minutes for at least the next hour or so.
