Vallone Jr., holding citation, at La Guli, the Notaro family's Ditmars Boulevard pastry shop. City Councilmember Peter F. Vallone Jr. this week honored La Guli Pastry Shop for 70 years of serving delicious treats to Astoria residents. Vallone presented the owners of La Guli, Rosario Notaro and his family, with a City Council Citation thanking them for their many years of devoted service to the community. La Guli is an old-fashioned Italian pastry shop that serves everything from canoli to gelato. Located on Ditmars Boulevard between 29th and 31st streets, La Guli, known for some of the best desserts in Queens, has been a neighborhood landmark for generations of Astoria residents.

"La Guli represents everything that is good about a neighborhood business. For seven decades, it has been not just a place where people buy their pastries, but a smiling and familiar face on the block that stands for a quality product and excellent service," Vallone said. "I hope they will be around for another 70 years."

The Vallone family and La Guli, both institutions of Astoria, have had a long and friendly history together. Rosario La Guli was a friend of Judge Charles Vallone, grandfather of the councilmember, who founded the Vallone & Vallone law firm 75 years ago. While growing up in Astoria, Vallone Jr. played Little League baseball on the I.C.Y.P. team sponsored by La Guli.
