D'Amico, Vallone Sr. Honored At Memorial Parade Dinner

Queens County Clerk Gloria D'Amico and former City Council Speaker Peter Vallone Sr. will be honored as Woman and Man of the Year at the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade Organization annual dinner dance at Terrace On the Park February 8. This year's parade will be the organization's 80th. Grand Marshal Lieutenant General Jack C. Stultz, Chief, Army Reserve and Commanding General, U.S. Army Reserve Command, will also be honored. Diego von Schmeling of Douglaston Market will receive the organization's Business Award for Community Service and Mamie C. Smith will be honored with the Douglas S. Mackay Community Service Award.

The dinner-dance is a major fundraising event for the parade, established in 1927 by Little Neck-Douglaston American Legion Post 103 and said to be the largest in the United States. Besides organizing and holding the parade, the organization, according to its mission statement, obtains and provides durable medical supplies for needy disabled veterans, creates opportunities and enhances educational awareness for schoolchildren and restores and maintains settings around war monuments and memorials.

The dinner-dance cocktail hour will begin at 7 p.m. and the dinner at 8 p.m. Black tie is optional. For more information or to place an advertisement in the 2007 Keepsake Dinner- Dance Journal, call 718-279-3200.
