Berard ‘Bill’ Giorgio Dies, Was Map Artist Berard “Bill” Giorgio, 91, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Hilton Head Regional Medical Center. A native of New York City, Giorgio was born in Greenwich Village, the son of the late Angela and Nicola Giorgio. For most of his adult life, he lived in Astoria. He was a retired map mounter and display maker for the Hagstrom Map Company and a World War II veteran who survived for more than a year as a prisoner of war. Throughout his life he was helpful to all he met. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather to whom family was all important. He was a devout Catholic, a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, an active member of the Holy Name Society, Nocturnal Adoration Society and the Happy Seniors of NW Astoria. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Howard Misthal of Hilton Head; three grandchildren, Sylvia, Sara and, Lisa’s husband John; and three great-grandchildren, Christian, Jacqueline and Michael. His wife, a daughter, a grandson, three sisters and a brother preceded him in death. Burial was at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.
