At the invitation of Anthony Aldorasi, principal of I.S. 141, Long Island City, Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels activist group and radio talkshow host, spoke to the school's senior students last month. Sliwa explained how he founded the Guardian Angels and made the negative situations in his life into positive ones and tried to make better lives for himself and all Americans. He told the students that even at 13 and 14 years of age, they are never too young to work to improve themselves and their community.
Aldorasi and Sliwa visited Buon Appetit Deli- Caterers on Ditmars Boulevard, where John Morana, the proprietor, created "The Curtis Sliwa Guardian Angel Hero"- grilled eggplant, grilled Portobello mushroom, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, olives, arugula and roasted peppers with oil and balsamic vinegar dressing on panini bread.
