Assistant District Attorney Aisha S. Greene of Cambria Heights, received the 15th annual Hal Miller Weinstein Memorial Award in a ceremony November 20 in Queens District Attorney Richard Brown's office. The award is given annually in honor of former Assistant District Attorney Hal Miller Weinstein, who died tragically in a car accident in April 1992.
Among those present were Weinstein's uncle, Queens Supreme Court Justice Jeremy S. Weinstein, Supervising Judge of the Queens Civil Court, and his brother, Lloyd, also an attorney. Also in attendance were members of the Class of 2005, as well as the executive staff of the District Attorney's Office. Greene's parents, the Reverend Alphonzo and Darlene Greene, Greene's aunt, Cheryl Araujo, and her godparents, Richard Hurley, Esq. and Shirley Harris, were also in attendance.
"Each year this award is presented to a member of our first-year class who most exemplifies Hal Weinstein's spirit, enthusiasm and dedication to public service," Brown said. "Hal touched the lives of many of us here in this office. His warmth and friendship were felt by all of us. The professionalism demonstrated by Aisha Greene as well as her deep commitment to the office truly exemplify the spirit of Hal Weinstein." Greene is assigned to the District Attorney's Domestic Violence Bureau and has also excelled in additional work assignments for the Criminal Court/Intake Bureau.
A lifelong resident of Cambria Heights, Greene obtained her bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and political science magna cum laude from Syracuse University in 2001, graduating in three years with a 3.71 grade point average. She was elected to Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science Honor Society, and Phi Eta Sigma, the national freshman honor society, and was on the Dean's List every semester.
A 2004 graduate of Columbia University School of Law, Greene was awarded Best Brief in the Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition. She was a member of the Executive Board of the Black Law Students Association, and was a tutor in the Harlem Tutorial Program.
