Turkeys Spread Joy, Meet Hunger Problem
Citing a recent study which found that at least two million New Yorkers are at risk of going hungry this Thanksgiving season," Assemblymember Jose Peralta organized a giveaway of 300 turkeys in his Corona district prior to Thanksgiving.
Peralta said Food Bank for New York City, an organization which feeds hungry families, had also teamed up with local banks in his area for a month-long, citywide
food drive until the end of November.
Referring to the Food Bank study, Peralta said, "The numbers speak for themselves. Our city's food problem has been increasing more and more over the past few years. We must do more to establish food sources for all those in need."
