Vallone Stays 'Vested' IN NYPD Safety

Vallone speaks at One Police Plaza with NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, CouncilSpeaker Christine Quinn and Councilmember Robert Jackson.
Councilmember Peter F. Vallone Jr., chairman of the Public Safety Committee, joined with NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly and Speaker Christine Quinn last week to unveil the new bulletproof vests currently being distributed to the city's police force. The vests provide additional protection to the rib cage and neck and can withstand more powerful bullets than the old equipment.

"Our officers put themselves in harm's way every day they put on a uniform, so that uniform should protect them from as much of that harm as possible," Vallone said. "When dealing with bullets, a fraction of an inch can determine life and death. Every inch of an officer that can be covered, therefore, should be covered. These vests make that goal a reality."
