Solomon Schechter School Dedicates New Playground
A ribbon cutting ceremony for the school's brand new playground will take place on November 21 at 7:30 p.m. It will pay tribute to all those who generously supported and participated in this extensive project. The new playground will be incorporated into the school day, as well as into Schechter's Extra Innings Program, an afterschool program for students in kindergarten through Grade 8. Extra Innings provides children with a snack and homework help and gives them a chance to unwind with recreational activities, including sports. Launched in 1956, the Solomon Schechter School of Queens was the first Conservative Jewish day school in North America. Today, the school is part of a flourishing network of 72 Solomon Schechter Schools in the United States and Canada. A vital, dynamic educational institution in Flushing, Schechter encompasses Pre-K through eighth grade. Students receive a strong Conservative Jewish and secular education amid a warm, nurturing environment. Many graduates continue their education at the finest Jewish and public high schools and at the nation's most selective universities.
