Search Warrant Finds Fake CDs, DVDs, Designer Clothes
BY LINDA J. WILSON

On Wednesday, November 1 at around 11:40 a.m., under the direct supervision of 114th Police Precinct Commanding Officer Inspector Brian McCarthy, a search warrant was conducted at 37-15 30th Ave., a location being investigated for the sale of illegally reproduced clothing, compact discs and digital video discs. On two separate occasions, illegally reproduced CDs and DVDs had been purchased, and these details permitted the issuance of the search warrant by Criminal Court Judge Robert Raciti. As a result of the search warrant execution, one arrest was made and a large quantity of counterfeit products and drug paraphernalia was confiscated.

On the following day, Friday, November 2, again under McCarthy's direct supervision, a Losing Proposition operation using undercover, trained officers was conducted within the confines of the 114th Precinct in an area historically problematic for prostitution. Three arrests were made and one vehicle seized.

On October 29, officers from the precinct, along with members of the Homeless Outreach Program, conducted a joint operation addressing homeless encampments. Five homeless people were referred to various shelter services and two homeless people were escorted and removed by the Homeless Outreach Unit for immediate shelter services. During 2006, 28 calls for homeless encampments were received through the 311 system. Based on those 28 past calls, 21 different locations were visited and inspected for homeless encampments and activity. The onset of colder weather, repeated calls for service for homeless made to the 311 complaint system and prior encounters, along with experience with homeless conditions within the confines of the 114th Precinct, brought about the joint operation.
