SHAREing & CAREing Raises Funds For Cancer Survivors On November 15 SHAREing & CAREing will hold their 12th anniversary benefit and fundraising silent auction. The gala event will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at Riccardo's by the Bridge, 21-01 24th Ave., in Astoria. Record numbers of party-goers attended last years benefit, "It's overwhelming to see the number of people at this benefit," Founder Anna Kril said. SHAREing & CAREing was founded to serve breast cancer survivors on May 7, 1994 by Kril, Carol Scarano, Lucille Hartmann and Mary Demakos. Since then the not-for-profit organization supports women diagnosed and treated for any cancer exclusive to women. Among the services that have been provided are transportation, pharmaceutical assistance and hair prosthetics, educational outreach to schools, churches and civic organizations and support group meetings, In 2005, some 7,680 women and their families received some form of assistance from SHAREing & CAREing. As Master of Ceremonies, Joseph Pistilli, president, chief executive officer and chairman of First Central Savings Bank and chairman of the board of Pistill Real Estate, will present awards and introduce the guests of honor, who are: John Maltz, president, Greiner-Maltz, and Anthony Argento, president, Broadway Stages. The awardees are: Physicians Recognition Award, Deirdre Henehan, M.D., assistant attending, hematology/ oncology, Department of Medicine, Elmhurst Hospital Center and assistant clinical professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and the Gazette's own "Heart to Heart" columnist, Doctor William J. Schwartz, chief of cardiology, The Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens and assistant clinical professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. The Community Recognition Award goes to Andrew Latos of Latos. Latos & DiPippo, P.C. Without SHAREing & CAREing, "Many women and their families wouldn't know where to go or what to do," Kril said last year. She continued, "We're unique, and nationally, I think, one of the best of its kind." |
