Laborer Recruitment

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Construction and General Building Laborers, Local 79, opened recruitment on August 29 for 200 skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Linda Angello announced.

Applications are available at the Mason Tenders Training Fund, 42-53 21st St., Long Island City, from 8 a.m. to noon through August 31. Applicants will complete a card on the site, to be called randomly on an as-needed basis, under the supervision of the New York State Department of Labor. The committee requires that applicants: Be at least 18 years old.

Have a high school or general equivalency diploma.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
