Rally Held In Athens Square Park
A group calling itself the Ad-Hoc Coalition for Justice in the Middle East held a rally in Athens Square Park last Saturday, August 26. A peaceful march-peacefulness ensured by a substantial police presence-through the streets of Astoria followed. The crowd of perhaps 100 or so left the park at 30th Avenue and 30th Street, proceeded south along 30th Street to Broadway, turned east on Broadway to
Steinway Street, proceeded along Steinway Street to 25th Avenue and then went back to 30th Avenue and the park.
The Coalition, made up of" individuals and organizations of conscience", according to materials handed out at the rally, decried "gross violations of human rights and international law " which it alleged are being committed by the United States and its allies in the Middle East.
