Councilmember James F. Gennaro (DFresh Meadows) and Queens Library Director Thomas W. Galante unveiled the new roof for the Hillcrest Branch recently. The roof was made possible through $250,000 in funding from Gennaro.
"Libraries are central to the health of our community," said Gennaro. "I am proud to do everything I can to make sure that our community has access to the best library resources available."
Prior to the installation of the new roof heavy rain created leaks and threatened to damage the library resources. Attempts at patching the leaks were fruitless until the roof was entirely replaced. In addition to the usual library items like books, videos and computers, the Hillcrest library contains special collections in Hebrew and Chinese.
"I would like to thank Councilmember Gennaro for his steadfast support for the Queens Library. Funding for a new roof at the Hillcrest Library was provided by Councilmember Gennaro, which allowed for a new roof to be installed," said Galante. "We deeply appreciate all that Councilmember Gennaro has done to keep the libraries in his district well maintained so that critical library services can continue to enrich the lives of all who use them."
