Customers Kept From Steinway Street Stores
On Wednesday, July 19, businesses on Steinway Street had power and were encouraged by Consolidated Edison workers to keep open. Then at the behest of Con Ed officials, police blocked off the street, kept pedestrians off the sidewalks and prevented them from going into those establishments that were open and ready to do business. Con Ed workers also said that "something keeps shorting out the system", but they had no idea what it was, why the system kept shorting out or when the problem could be identified and fixed.
