114th Precinct Police Solve January 6 Murder Police have solved all five murders that have occurred in the 114th Precinct to date this year by making arrests. The latest case cracked was that of a 44-year-old white man who was stabbed outside the Caf Santorini, 25-98 Steinway St., at about 2 a.m. on January 6. The victim got into an argument with two other white males inside the club. The altercation spilled into the street outside and one of the perpetrators brandished a knife. The victim was stabbed in the stomach. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center at about 2:37 a.m. and treated, but died some two hours and 10 minutes later, at 4:47 a.m. A canvass was conducted, but without results. Detectives assigned to the 114th Squad kept on the case, however, and on Friday, July 14 arrested a 25-year-old white male and charged him with the murder. 114th Precinct Blotter Friday, July 14: + A 16-year-old white male wrote "VENOM2" on a Department of Transportation parking sign at 25-46 35th St. and was found to be in possession of seven paint markers and 60 self-adhesive stickers. He was charged with criminal mischief, making graffiti and possession of graffiti instruments. + A 48-year-old white man engaged in an argument with a victim over a traffic incident at Broadway and 29th Street while holding a red "club" anti-theft device. The perpetrator struck the victim over the head with the club and hit the victim's vehicle, breaking a window. The perpetrator was charged with assault with a weapon, menacing, criminal mischief and criminal possession of a weapon. + At Broadway and 29th Street, a 31-year-old white man broke a victim's driver-side door by pulling on the handle and harassed the victim by yelling obscenities. He was charged with criminal mischief and harassment. Saturday, July 15: + A21-year-old Hispanic man was seen driving while using a cellphone at Northern Boulevard and 46th Avenue. When stopped, he failed to produce valid insurance or a license and was found to have an open warrant. He was charged with unlicensed operator and two traffic violations. + A 34-year-old white man was seen at Ditmars and Shore Boulevards drinking from an open container of Heineken. While being placed under arrest, he flailed his arms and struggled with police. Asearch incidental to arrest revealed he possessed four bags of marijuana. He was charged with resisting arrest, unlawful possession of marijuana and violation of a local law. + At 50-92 Northern Blvd. a 42-year-old white man argued with a yellow cab driver because the driver would not drive him to Long Island. He punched the cab driver in the face and while the driver was on the ground, kicked him in the face. He was charged with assault with intent to cause physical injury and harassment. + A 26-year-old black man was seen at 35-25 Steinway St. in an auto with an open container of alcohol. He was found to have untaxed cigarettes and counterfeit cigarette tax stamps in his possession. He was charged with possession of forged instruments and violation of a local law. Sunday, July 16: + At 41st Street and 34th Avenue a 32-yearold Hispanic man engaged in an argument with a female victim, bit her ear and scratched her wrist, causing a laceration. He was charged with assault and harassment. + At 556 Main St., Roosevelt Island, an 18year-old black female threw a broken glass at a public safety agent, hitting her victim and causing swelling to the victim's elbow and bruising to her eye. The perpetrator was charged with assault with intent to cause serious physical injury. + At 28th Street and 34th Avenue, a 21-yearold man punched the window of a victim's limousine, causing damage. He was also observed fighting in the street, causing public alarm. He was charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. + A48-year-old white man intentionally damaged property at 34-11 30th Ave. A search incidental to arrest recovered marijuana. He was charged with criminal mischief and unlawful possession of marijuana. + A 21-year-old Hispanic man was observed in possession of an open bottle of beer at 23-23 29th Ave. He did not possess a valid ID. He was charged with violation of a local law. + At 20-41 Shore Blvd., a 31-year-old white woman struck a victim with a glass bottle, causing bleeding and lacerations. She was charged with assault with intent to cause physical injury and criminal possession of a weapon. Monday, July 17: + At Broadway and 42nd Street, a 41-year-old white man removed a sheet rock razor cutter from his pocket and intentionally pointed and waved the razor at a victim's face and upper body, placing the victim in fear. He was charged with menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment. + A 43-year-old white man was observed disobeying a stop sign at 25-34 48th St. The vehicle license plate had been reported stolen on May 18 of this year. The perpetrator attempted to destroy a Ziplock bag of cocaine by crushing it. He was charged with tampering with evidence, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a controlled substance. + A security guard on duty in a store at 33-01 30th Ave. saw a 22-year-old Hispanic man placing merchandise in his pocket without paying for it and exiting. The perpetrator was charged with petit larceny. + On 34th Street between 30th and 31st Avenues, a 60-year-old white man approached a victim from behind, punched him in the head and struck the victim's head with his wooden cane. The perpetrator was charged with assault with a weapon and criminal possession of a weapon. + At 29th Street and Hoyt Avenue North, a 39-year-old black man was observed driving a motorcycle with an expired New York license plate. He was found to have one suspension on his license as well. He was charged with having a suspended license and a traffic violation. Tuesday, July 18: + A 36-year-old Hispanic man grabbed a female victim in the face and then punched her in the head at 25-20 30th Rd. He was charged with assault with intent to cause physical injury and harassment. + A 22-year-old Asian man was observed operating a vehicle and disobeying a steady red light. When he was stopped at 25-69 44th St. he was found to have a suspended license. He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator, unlicensed operator and a traffic violation. + A 64-year-old white man was observed disobeying a red light. When he was stopped on Shore Boulevard in Astoria Park, he was found to have a suspended license. He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator and a traffic violation. + A 37-year-old white man was observed operating a vehicle without wearing a seatbelt. When he was stopped at 25-70 31st St., he was found to have a suspended license. He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator, unlicensed operator and driving without a seatbelt. Wednesday, July 19: + Two black males 14 and 15 years old and two Hispanic males 15 and 19 years old were charged with burglary and criminal trespass after an observer stated he heard unknown males breaking into and inside a building at 3rd Street and 27th Avenue and saw the four fleeing the location. + A 30-year-old white man was observed driving on the wrong side of the street. When he was stopped at 32nd Avenue and 55th Street, he exhibited signs of intoxication. He was charged with DWI and failure to obey a traffic device. + A 46-year-old Hispanic man was observed operating a vehicle without headlights on. When he was stopped at 31st Street and 36th Avenue, he exhibited signs of intoxication. He was charged with DWI. + A 71-year-old white man was charged with criminal mischief after he was seen scratching a victim's vehicle with a key at 30th Avenue and 30th Street. Thursday, July 20: + A 41-year-old black man was observed inside a closed park at Crescent Street and 36th Avenue exposing himself to pedestrians. He was charged with criminal trespass and public lewdness. + A 27-year-old man was observed disobeying a blinking red light at Ditmars Boulevard and 31st Street. He was found in possession of hypodermic needles and cocaine. He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlicensed operator and failure to obey a traffic device. + A 46-year-old black man was observed at 50-01 Northern Blvd. attempting to purchase an iPod with a counterfeit credit card and using a North Carolina driver's license for identification. He was charged with possession of a forged instrument, unlawful possession of personal ID and petit larceny. Friday, July 21: + A 32-year-old Asian man alleged that at Crescent Street and 23rd Avenue a 24-year-old Asian woman ripped his clothes off, hit him in the face and scratched his back. The woman alleged that the man hit her in the face and arm and kicked her in the leg. Both were charged with assault with intent to cause physical injury and harassment. |
