Teacher Seminar Offers 3 Free Graduate Credits

The Taft Institute for Government Annual Seminar for Teachers offers three free graduate credits in education or political science to teachers in the Greater New York area. The course, which will take place on the campus of Queens College, CUNY, will cover the teaching of American elections as well as American foreign policy. Co-taught by Professor Michael Krasner of the Political Science Department and Professor Jack Zevin of Secondary Education, the course will offer teachers the most recent political science findings as well as innovative pedagogy. Four full-day sessions will be held August 21 to 24, with breakfast and lunch provided, and seven sessions will be held during the fall semester.

Students can earn three graduate credits in political science or education, with tuition waived. Students pay only a $100 fee to cover administrative expenses.

In the past, guest speakers for the Seminar have included City Councilmember Melinda Katz (D-Forest Hills), state Senator Michael Balboni (R-Nassau County), journalists such as Ethan Bronner, deputy foreign editor of the New York Times, and political consultants Joel Benenson and David Garth. Bronner will speak again at this year's seminar.

Interested teachers should contact Patricia Glakeler at 718-997-5546 or patricia.glakeler@qc.cuny.edu to request an application form or for further information.
