Buehler first did volunteer work for the nascent Boys Club of Queens in 1952. In 1955, when the club opened and she became its first executive director, there were 1,500 Boys Clubs in existence and Buehler was one of the first women to head one. She is still active today as a board member of the organization, now known as the Variety Boys and Girls Club of Queens, and its director emeritus. She also has been volunteering her time at "Variety-The Children's Charity Annual Telethon and Radiothon" for the last 15 years. Buehler also received a citation from then President Harry Truman for her volunteer work during World War II.
