Fire Damages 3rd Floor Apartment

Flames shoot from the windows of a third-floor apartment at 33-79 43rd St. shortly after the fire was reported at 11:25 a.m. May 12.
A fire on the third floor of 33-79 43rd St. last Friday sent two New York City firefighters and one civilian to area hospitals with minor injuries, according to an EMS lieutenant on the scene.

The fire started in the front bedroom of a third-floor apartment shortly after 11 a.m.; the 911 emergency hotline recorded the first of several calls reporting the blaze at 11:25 a.m. The first firefighting units arrived on the scene four and a half minutes later, according to the Fire Department.

The blaze, which blew out the windows of the room where the fire started, grew to an all-hands fire, with 12 units of equipment and 60 firefighters on the scene. The fire was brought under control at 12:08 p.m.
