Artist to Exhibit At Regal Heights Rehabilitation Center The works of Ostor Glorig will be on display in the lobby of Regal Heights Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, 70-05 35th Ave., Jackson Heights, during the month of May. The one-man exhibition will open and Glorig will discuss his works on Monday, May 1 in the center's first floor recreation room, starting at 2:30 p.m. Glorig was born in New York City Feb. 14, 1919. He began to draw at an early age and when he was 12 years old, an aunt bought him his first paint set. As an adolescent he traveled 20 miles into the city for art lessons every week. After two years of learning the fundamentals, including perspective and line drawing, he began working in oil paints. After graduating from high school, Glorig served for four years in the United States Army, where he was also an avid baseball player. He returned to art school after his discharge from the Army and finished his art school course of study. Glorig did freelance commercial work, primarily in advertising, for companies such as IBM. In 1956 he took part in his first group show at the Lynn Cottler Gallery, beginning his long and successful career as both a commercial and fine artist. He showed his works in numerous galleries throughout New York City for the rest of his working life. Glorig retired to his Astoria home in 1982, where he lived until coming to Regal Heights. At Regal Heights, he became a regular member of weekly studio art groups and the artist of the month group, which, as its name implies, meets monthly. He now works primarily in colored pencils. The pieces he has created have earned him a well deserved reputation at Regal Heights. For more information, call 718-6625100, ext. 3011. | |||||
