Msgr. Joseph Konrad, CTK HS Trustee Emeritus, Dies Monsignor Joseph Konrad, J.C.D., Pastor Emeritus of St. Matthias Parish, Ridgewood, former Vice Officialis at the Tribunal, and Trustee Emeritus of Christ the King Regional H.S. died recently, Christ the King Chairman of the Board of Trustees, state Senator Serphin Maltese announced. Konrad was 89 years old. A native of Brooklyn, Konrad attended Manhattan College and Immaculate Conception Seminary, Huntington, Long Island. He was ordained April 27, 1943. He served as an assistant at Holy Innocents, Flatbush from 1943 and 1944 and at Blessed Sacrament, Jackson Heights, from 1944 to 1946 before being appointed to the Curial staff as Defender of the Bond at The Tribunal. In 1966, he was appointed as Associate Presiding Judge of The Tribunal. He served as a permanent member of the Diocesan Ecumenism Committee and cochairman of the Catholic-Jewish Relations Committee. He also was a former head of the German Apostolate. In 1972, he was appointed pastor of St. Matthias, a position he held until 1991. He was named a monsignor in 1981. From 1968 to 1973, he served as a member of The Tablet Editorial Advisory Committee. He also served on The Tablet Board of Directors and on the Board of Trustees of Christ the King Regional H. S. since 1981. "On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we will sorely miss his wise counsel and sage advice," Maltese said. "During his 25 years of faithful service, he provided us with spiritual leadership and a dedicated presence that inspired all who knew him." |
