SJU Students To Help Katrina Victims During Spring Break Students from St. John’s University’s Queens and Staten Island campuses will be going to New Orleans to do service work during their spring break. Along with the Catholic Charities organization, the students will aid in home cleaning efforts for the elderly, as well as the physically disabled. The idea for the trip was spearheaded by students Bethany Housman and Patricia Lemmerman, who wanted to help those directly affected by Katrina’s devastation. In an effort to reduce the cost of the trip for students, the university held several fundraising campaigns such as selling flowers, teddy bears, and various Valentine’s Day presents. Some 20 students along with two campus ministers will be making the trip during the week of March 4. |
