Maspeth Bird Haven Seeks Support
MBH (Maspeth Bird Haven) a not-forprofit parrot rescue and adoption organization, recently moved to a new home in Maspeth. The owners of the bird haven, Gayle and Barry Schwartz, now have more room to provide better care and facilities for the various parrot species that are left with them, They need to expand the facilities with a sunroom for the fostered birds but the funds needed to accomplish this are beyond MBH's current finances.
Almost daily Maspeth Bird Haven receives telephone and e-mail inquiries from people who need to arrange for their parrots as well as other birds from budgies to cockatoos to go to a different home for a variety of reasons.
Recently MBH participated in a joint effort auction with several other animal rescue organizations to secure animals from a defunct game farm in the Catskills. They pooled their own funds with organizations such as Wildlife Watch, Inc. and Foster Parrots, Inc. to bid on several parrots that were being kept at the game farm and secured a male bluecrowned conure and a female cherryheaded conure. The big birds are longlived and new homes need to be found.
