Crystal Window & Door Systems Executive Vice President Steve Chen was honored on October 4 by the Queens Library Foundation for his contributions to the community, particularly through educational initiatives. He was recognized at the foundation's annual dinner dance on October 4 before more than 350 people at the Water's Edge Restaurant in Long Island City. The event raised a record amount of over $240,000 in support of the Queens Library system. Maria Grasso of Flushing Savings Bank was also recognized that same evening.

The 2006 dinner dance was the foundation's most successful fundraiser ever. The recordsetting donations will enable the foundation to expand literacy and youth programs and add updated computer equipment throughout the library system. The Queens Borough Public Library system is one of the largest in the nation, operating 63 branches and serving more than 800,000 active borrowers in Queens.

In his acknowledgement remarks, Steve Chen noted, "I spent many afternoon hours at my local branch of the Queens Library when I was growing up in Queens. It made a tremendous impact on me, and now I can give something back. I am grateful to the Queens Library Foundation for this recognition, and to be involved with such a worthwhile institution. My family and our company, Crystal Windows, have always believed in the power of education. Crystal has been actively involved with educational initiatives in the community for as long as I can remember, and I am pleased to be in a position now to carry on that tradition." As the head of day-to-day operations at Crystal, Chen has supported reading programs at local elementary schools, continues to work with Queensborough Community College, where his father, Thomas Chen, established a scholarship endowment, and supports cultural institutions with a focus on education.

Thomas Chen, Crystal's president and founder, appointed his son, Steve, to his current role nearly two years ago, marking the beginning of leadership transition to the next generation for the company. "It is a thrill to see Steve being recognized in his own right. I believe it is important to share success with our neighbors, and I am proud of Steve for his efforts in the community," Thomas Chen said.
