Joey's Place 84-14 Astoria Boulevard, Jackson Heights 718.478.4037

j oey's Place, conveniently located on Astoria Boulevard in Jackson Heights, has been a friendly, neighborhood gathering spot for nearly 19 years. You'll find two separate entrances at Joey's Place. One leads to a lively bar where friends and sports fans alike gather to chat, listen to music and enjoy a few beers into the wee hours. The other

opens into the dining room, where a stone

hearth warms the restaurant in the winter and the gracious, friendly staff warms diners with their welcome and attentiveness all year round.

Joey's Place specializes in freshly prepared Italian specialties and steaks, making this a great place for families and large parties to convene. In fact, it's the restaurant of choice for many functions organized by Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Joey's has wonderful cold and hot appetizers such as tender shrimp cocktail or exceptionally good baked clams, left whole, topped with crispy seasoned breadcrumbs and drizzled with a buttery lemon sauce. The hot antipasto for two is a hearty sampling of crisp fried calamari, which no one can resist for their tenderness and crunch, baked clams, stuffed shrimp, fried mozzarella sticks and a stuffed half bell pepper. A zesty tomato sauce adds a nice touch to this dish. Everything is accompanied by a basket of warm, crusty bread. Special appetizers on the evening we visited included New Zealand mussels in red or white wine sauce with lots of garlic. A grilled Portobello mushroom stuffed with melted cheese and finished with a touch of balsamic vinegar seemed like a meal in itself. Appetizers run in the $6 to $9 range and are generously portioned. A nice bottle of wine is the perfect accompaniment.

Joey's Place Offers Great Food In The Neighborhood Joey's Place Offers Great Food In The Neighborhood The chef does an excellent job with sautéed dishes, including veal or chicken prepared Marsala, piccata or Sorrentina style, with layers of prosciutto, eggplant and mozzarella ($13.95). As is true with all the entrees, my chicken scarpariello was prepared on the spot, and my request for an extra portion of lemon sauce was granted with a smile. The fresh fish offerings of the day that evening were swordfish Livornese and sea bass oreganata. This fish was fresh, flaky and buttery, and was perfectly seasoned and prepared to retain all the juices and flavor. Standards such as shrimp scampi over rice, shrimp marinara and stuffed fillet of sole are always popular and consistently delicious.

Hearty pasta dishes are among my favorites at Joey's Place; among them is rigatoni with shrimp, diced chicken breast, asparagus, sundried tomatoes and mushrooms with a light white wine and lemon sauce ($13.95). Angel hair with shrimp is another popular dish, as is the Roman favorite, linguine carbonara with a touch of smoky bacon. The special pasta of the evening was a toothsome and satisfying gnocchi Bolognese with a rich meat sauce.

Those with hearty appetites will rejoice in Joey's unbeatable, twopound T-bone steak, a tender, sizzling beauty cooked to perfection for just $22.95. Joey's serves tender prime rib of beef every night of the week. Take a crack at the King crab legs filled with sweet meat-10 legs to an order for just $21.95. Indulge in twin lobster tails for a fraction of what you'd pay elsewhere. Best of all, these entrees and other meat or fish entrees come complete with choice of baked potato, French fries, rice or pasta and a freshly tossed salad, making Joey's an economical choice for a meal.

Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, Joey's Place offers an Express Lunch served in less than 30 minutes to meet your back to work schedule. Priced from $4.95 to $8.50, entrees include veal or chicken Marsala, linguine tossed with diced chicken and broccoli or a juicy burger. Lunch specials are served with salad and French fries or pasta. At these prices, lunch at Joey's Place is cheaper than fast food and a whole lot better, considering the friendly and efficient service you'll receive. Joey's Place also has private party facilities for up to 150 people and does a brisk catering business. Prices start at just $21 per person and the menu can be customized to your desires. Plan your office or organization's next function at Joey's Place.

Joey's Place has great pasta, seafood, chicken and meat dishes, friendly service and reasonable prices. After dinner, go next door and shoot the breeze over a drink at the bar. Orders can be prepared for pick up as well, so you can bring home

these wonderful dishes for your family. Don't forget the great job they do with private parties.
