Buy What You Want

The Women's Studio Center, 21-25 44th Ave. in Long Island City has an Art Supply Exchange for artists that lets the artist take the supplies they want and leave the ones they don't.

Some items currently in the Art Supply Exchange include: 18-inch by 24-inch gold leaf paper, heavily-textured dark green paper (ideal for pastels), frames, 8-ounce and 1quart containers of standard and metallic colors Art Store Brand tempera paints and much, much more.

The book sale can't be beat anywhere. Books of 50 pages or more are only .50 while books under 50 pages are free (but this applies to books in the designated bookcase in the Writing Room only). Some of the titles at the center are: Rabbit Redux, John Updike, Seven Famous Greek Plays with Introductions by Whitney J. Oats and Eugene O'Neill, Jr., Green Mansions, W.H. Hudson, the Amsco Literature Series, Practicing History and selected essays from Alice Hoffman.

The Women's Studio Center is seeking to build the best library of books by women authors in New York City and asking for literary contributions in the following areas: reference books; dictionaries, word usage, grammar and writing technique, anthologies, writing theory and criticism, biographies, feminist literature and fiction or non-fiction books by women authors.

The center is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 1 to 9 p.m., and some weekends, but please call first, 718-3615649.
