Blaine Kicks Off Library Summer Reading Program

Magician David Blaine (l.), spokesperson for the New York State Libraries' summer reading program, themed "Books: a Treasure!" told children gathered at the Flushing Main Street branch of the Queens Borough Public Library that he developed his love of magic by reading books about famed magician Harry Houdini at his local library. Blaine did card tricks with children at the library on June 6 to kick off "Books: a Treasure!" throughout the Queens Library system. Children can read any books they like and can get school credit next fall for books they complete. Public libraries will hold parties, offer prizes and organize special events all summer long. Prizes for participating include a chance to win a weekend in New York City and lunch with Blaine. For more information, visit www.summerreading.org.
