Gyro World's glass doors open in warm weather onto a prominent corner of Northern Boulevard in Flushing. The clean and comfortable dining room is decorated in rich Mediterranean colors, a mural of a seaside and hand-painted glass hanging light fixtures. Another mural features the sentiment "good appetite" in 13 languages, all reflecting the diversity of Queens.

The simple, colorful menu offers only the best in grilled Greek meats, salads, home-style burgers and pizza. According to owner, Dimitri Petrides, the difference is that in his establishment, nearly everything is made fresh each day on the premises. He grinds his own beef for the incredible, 10ounce beef burgers, makes his own French fries from real potatoes, makes his own Greek sausages and beef sausages using family recipes and doesn't skimp on quality. For example, only imported extra-virgin olive oil is used and the feta cheese found in Gyro World's incredible Greek salads is imported from Greece. For all this quality, the prices are unbeatable and the whole family will enjoy a meal at Gyro World. 

You can snack on appetizers such as stuffed grape leaves, eggplant salad and tender, fried calamari. Kids will love the mozzarella sticks and chicken fingers. A generously sized Greek salad can be topped with creamy, imported feta cheese and a Caesar salad with zesty dressing. Meanwhile, the grill sizzles with fresh meats cooked to order and served piping hot. Traditional gyro, made of ground lamb and beef, is available, but so is the Greek style gyro, a relative rarity. On a huge, rotating skewer, slices of hand-pressed pork are put together along with special seasonings which make the meat extra tender and flavorful. This meat can be piled onto a pita bread sandwich with tomatoes, onions and tzatziki sauce for just $4.60, or you can order a platter with soup or Greek salad, tzatziki sauce, and homemade French fries or rice or lemon potatoes for only $9.25.

Petrides himself makes loukaniko, a Greek style sausage, as well as sheftalia, a pork sausage, and bifteki, a Greek style beef hamburger. Each has its own distinct flavor, due to the herbs and spices used. The bifteki has a touch of fresh mint in it, while sheftalia is scented with cardamom and other spices. Again, these freshly grilled meats can be made into a satisfying sandwich or served on a platter. Grilled cheese called haloumi is delicious as a sandwich with fresh salad and yogurt sauce and will satisfy vegetarians or anyone eschewing meat for whatever reason. All of these items can also be rolled up into a wrap sandwich, for about $4.60. Enjoy a glass of wine or an ice-cold beer with your meal or choose among a variety of soft drinks, coffee or tea.

Gyro World makes an incredibly juicy, 10ounce hamburger, using their own freshly ground beef. Topped with cheese or bacon, the burger deluxe comes with home style French fries, lettuce, tomato, pickle and cole slaw for about the same price as a hamburger in a major fast food restaurant, but with far better quality ingredients, and made fresh. Gyro World makes crispy pizza as well, with all favorite toppings. A large cheese pie costs $11.50 and a slice is just $1.60.
