Meng Offended By 'Yellow Line' Sneakers

BY JOHN TOSCANO

Assemblymember Jimmy Meng Assemblymember Jimmy Meng Assemblymember Jimmy Meng (D-Flushing) and other Asian American residents in his district have complained to Adidas USA, the sneaker manufacturer, that they are offended by the company's new Yellow Line YI-HUF sneakers.

Meng threatened a boycott of the company after Adidas failed to issue a public apology and withdraw the new line from sales in response to the complaints.

"Your response does not address the concerns of the Asian American community," Meng stated. "Regarding your response, I certainly hope that Adidas America would not purposely try to offend any group or individual based on race or ethnicity when it introduced the line."

Meng said the Yellow Line sneaker features a stereotypical caricature with slanted eyes, buck teeth and bowl cut and has "Fong" written on the back heel.
