Since Mamma Bell's Pizza and Gyro opened 14 months ago, many hungry customers have let Mamma do the cooking for them. And why not? With delicious pizza, gyros, hot entrees, sandwiches and more, who wouldn't want a hot, delicious meal for lunch or dinner, to eat in or delivered to their home or office?

Owner Spiro Ploumes works tirelessly to offer freshly made Italian, Greek and American dishes to Mamma's growing clientele. Mamma Bell's makes great pizza, with a thick, yet puffy crust that holds all the bubbling cheese and toppings you choose. There are dozens of varieties, including pepperoni, veggie, baked ziti pizza, spinach and tomato, traditional margherita with mozzarella, basil and tomato and the Mamma's Special, topped with ham, salami, pepperoni, mozzarella and sauce. An extra-large, 18-inch, plain pie costs only $10.99 and all pies come with a free 1.5liter bottle of soda. A Family Special includes an extra-large pie, four chicken fingers, four mozzarella sticks, two garlic knots and a bottle of soda for just $20.95.

Moving on to hot entrees, try a mound of pasta such as penne alla vodka or linguine topped with broccoli, garlic and oil, meatballs or sausage. I enjoyed Mamma's pasta tossed with feta cheese, olives and tangy marinara sauce ($7.50). Main dishes such as shrimp scampi, fra diavolo or parmigiana style, are served with bread and choice of house salad or pasta. Chicken rollatini, Marsala, Francese or parmigiana are other good choices; these entrees run about $11.50.

Many hot entrees can be piled onto a hero for a great lunch or dinner, starting at just $5. Philly cheese steak and potato and eggs are two of my favorites. There are cold heros, too, with slices of fresh ham, cheeses and salami, to name a few. Heros can be ordered by the foot for a large party.

Juicy and lean charbroiled burgers are served plain or with your favorite toppings, with or without French fries, curly fries or onion rings. Lunch specials start at $3.95 and are served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Orders can be delivered with an $8 minimum purchase.

Mamma Bell's gyro tops the list of their popular Greek specialties. The $4.25 gyro sandwich simply cannot be beat and dozens of them are in demand all day long. Each one is made to order so you can skip the onions, add extra tzatziki sauce, have no sauce-just as you like it. Juicy chicken kebabs can be ordered in a pita sandwich or on a platter with French fries or rice, Greek salad and pita bread for only $9. Grilled Greek sausage, beef stick or lamb stick all go nicely on some warm pita bread. Mamma Bell's boasts the best salads in town, full of crunchy lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives and creamy feta cheese with a zesty dressing. They'll add sliced grilled chicken on top if you like and you'll have a complete meal for under $9. The salad menu includes Caesar salads, tricolore salads, grilled vegetable and tuna salads.

For an appetizer or a snack, try their crisp mozzarella sticks, served with marinara sauce, or spicy buffalo chicken wings with bleu cheese dressing. Crisp chicken fingers come with honey mustard sauce for dipping and are popular with kids and adults alike.

Let Mamma Bell's do your catering for your next business or family function. Order custom made hero sandwiches by the foot or choose among dozens of hot entrees such as manicotti, stuffed shells, lasagna, shrimp or chicken parmigiana, chicken Francese and more. Party-size salads complete the meal and everything arrives fresh and ready to serve.

For lunch, dinner or a snack, visit Mamma Bell's on Northern Boulevard in Bayside for great pizza, Italian and Greek specialties to stay or to go. Grab one of their menus and take advantage of money-saving coupons. Call for free delivery and let Mamma do the cooking.
