Fake Nike Products, Cash Seized, Two Arrested

Counterfeit goods bearing the Nike trademark, including backpacks and clothing, and $746 in United States currency were seized and an Asian couple arrested when police of the 114th Precinct under the direct supervision of Precinct Commander Deputy Inspector Brian McCarthy and of Lieutenant James Gulotta, 114th Precinct special operations supervisor, executed a search warrant at 34-20 30th Ave., on Friday, December 16.

Yung P. Chang, a 47-year-old woman, and Xi L. Wu, a 51-year-old man, both of 46-07 49th St., were arrested by Police Officer Robert McDonald and charged with trademark counterfeiting. Wu had previously been arrested by 114th Precinct police for the same offense.

Monday, December 12:

• A 43-year-old Hispanic man was arrested in front of 34-19 Steinway St. after a victim complained to police that the perpetrator had punched the victim in the face, intending to cause physical injury and in fact causing substantial pain.

• At the corner of Steinway Street and Broadway a 27-year-old black man was observed by 114th Precinct Traffic Safety Supervisor Sergeant Sumberaz driving a 1998 Lexis with expired Florida registration. The man’s license was found to have expired as well and he was arrested by Officer Walters of the 114th Precinct and charged with aggravated motor vehicle operator and operating an unregistered vehicle.

• A white and a Hispanic male, both 12 years old, were arrested and charged with assault in the I.S. 141 cafeteria at 37-31 31st Ave. after they repeatedly punched another student who had accidentally bumped into them. The victim was punched multiple times, causing bruises to his face and a cut on the right side of the head.

Tuesday, December 13:

• A 66-year-old white man was arrested and charged with harassment and criminal possession of a weapon inside 22-51 37th St. A female victim called police after she and the defendant got into an argument over a relationship the victim said she is having. The argument escalated and the victim said she felt fear and alarm, prompting her to call police. She was grabbed around the neck and shaken violently.

When police arrived, the victim said that the perpetrator had firearms in the residence, for which he did not have the required permits or registration.

• A 36-year-old white man was arrested and charged with assault, harassment and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 12 years of age after the victim, his wife, told police that she and the perpetrator had a dispute over her making a telephone call and the perpetrator had grabbed her by her hair and one arm, causing bruising and pain. The incident occurred in front of the couple’s three-year-old daughter and two-year-old son. The perpetrator was arrested at the 114th Precinct, 34-16 Astoria Blvd., by the precinct domestic violence officer, Police Officer Keating.

• A 34 year-old white woman was arrested at the corner of Astoria Boulevard and 31st Street after a passerby informed police that the perpetrator had crashed into a subway support and was intoxicated. The driver was found to have slurred speech, bloodshot, watery eyes and alcohol odor on her breath. Asked how much she had had to drink, the driver replied, “A lot”. She refused to take a Breathalyzer test and was charged with the refusal and with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

• A 45-year-old Hispanic man, a passenger in a car that ran a red light at the corner of 31st Avenue and 43rd Street, was arrested and charged with drinking alcohol in a vehicle after the vehicle was pulled over by police and the passenger, who was sitting in the front seat of the vehicle, was found to have an open bottle of Remy Martin, an alcoholic beverage, in his possession. The passenger also slurred his speech and had bloodshot eyes.

Wednesday, December 14:

• A 17-year-old Hispanic male was arrested by Police Officer Flores of the 114th Precinct Conditions Unit in front of 34-23 38th St. after Flores observed the perpetrator spray painting his name on property without permission or the authority to do so. When Flores attempted to place the teenager under arrest, the perpetrator tried to flee and then fought with an officer, causing injuries to the officer’s shoulder and arm. The perpetrator was charged with assaulting a police officer, criminal mischief, making graffiti, resisting arrest and possession of graffiti instruments.

Thursday, December 15:

• An 18-year-old black man was arrested at 25-28 Broadway and charged with burglary and petit larceny after he entered the premises, remained unlawfully and removed property without permission or the authority to do so.

• A 26-year-old white man was arrested in front of the 114th Precinct station house after he had refused to pay the driver of a livery cab and was asked by the driver to leave the vehicle. The perpetrator reached over the back of the front seat and punched the driver on the side of his jaw, causing pain; he was charged with assault and intent to defraud by leaving without paying.

Saturday, December 17:

• A 43-year-old white man was charged with menacing with a weapon, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment at 35-52 Steinway St. The perpetrator’s wife stated that her husband, the perpetrator, smacked her with his open hand, causing redness and pain, then picked up a six-inch knife, pointed it at her and stated he was going to kill her.

• A 30-year-old Hispanic man was arrested for criminal trespass after he knowingly entered and remained unlawfully on fenced-in property at 23-14 Hoyt Ave. South and tried to enter a house. A victim inside the house called police by means of the ‘911’ hotline. The perpetrator was still on the premises when police arrived.

Sunday, December 18:

• A 23-year-old white man was arrested in front of 22-63 43rd St. after assaulting a woman, who lives in the same building as the perpetrator, with a wooden stick, causing a bruise and pain. The perpetrator also assaulted the victim’s son by choking him, causing discomfort and pain. The perpetrator was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

• At Ditmars and Shore Boulevards a 20-year-old Hispanic man was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon after he was found to be in possession of a switchblade knife greater than 4 inches in size.
