Glad Tidings To All
Start celebrating Christmas December 10 with the yearly Christmas sale at Trinity Lutheran Church, 31-18 37th St., Astoria. While shopping and munching on goodies you can sing along with the Christmas carols being played and kids—of all ages—can have their pictures taken with Santa.
Then, December 17 at 11 a.m. a German Christmas service will be followed at 1 p.m. with a German food feast for a donation of $6. Call 718-278-0036 and reserve now for a day at Trinity.
While you’re in the holiday spirit consider volunteering some time on Friday nights.
At 6:30 p.m. the Trinity food pantry— serving needy families in the Astoria–Long Island City area—needs help packing and distributing food. They will be distributing bags of food twice a month.
At 7:30 p.m. the Trinity Men’s Shelter ministry could use some volunteers to help cook a hot meal, set up for the meal, make breakfast or clean up. Of course, volunteers are welcome to stay over.
To get in touch with the leaders of these ministries contact the Trinitylicoffice@earthlink.net or call, 718-278-0036.
Continuing with the musical extravaganzas on December 11, Goliard Concerts and Most Precious Blood Concert Choir will present “A Holiday Concert” with the music of Vivaldi, Mercaudate and Handel–Halvorson. The concert will be conducted by Daniel Radtke and will feature Naomi Cohen, Suzanne Jakubiak, and Carol Kaszar, sopranos, Elizabeth Thorne, alto, Elaine Olschesky, flute, Yon Joo Lee, violin and Lawrence Zoernig, cello. Finish the festivities with a Christmas carol sing along.
The event starts at 3 p.m., The Church of the Most Precious Blood, 37th Street between Broadway and 34th Avenue in Astoria. Tickets are $10/$8 in advance and $15/$10 at the door. For more information, call 718-728-8927.
