Burglary Brings Calls For Taking Precautions A woman was asleep in her bedroom at 31-17 Crescent St. when she was awakened by a loud noise early on Sunday, December 4. She picked up her phone and walked into her living room, where she saw a man she did not know going though her pocketbook. She ran from the apartment and called 911. Officers from the 114th Police Precinct responded to the call of a burglary in progress and Officer Ralph Rezza saw a man going down the fire escape. A 48-year-old white male was arrested in front of the building. The perpetrator was found to have personal property belonging to the victim in his possession. He was charged with burglary, criminal possession stolen property and possession of burglary tools. The perpetrator entered the victim’s apartment from the fire escape, prompting 114th Precinct Commanding Officer Brian McCarthy to remind area residents to lock their doors and windows and put a metal or wood jam, removable from the inside, on street level windows and windows opening on fire escapes. He noted that window jams must be installed so they can be removed quickly and residents can escape in case of fire. McCarthy also reminded residents not to leave garage door openers inside unlocked vehicles. Also on December 4, several calls of a large dispute and assault in progress brought officers from the 114th Precinct and Housing Patrol to Club DNA at 28-10 34th Ave. at about 2:50 a.m. a 19-year-old male and a 20-year-old male were charged with attempted murder, another 19-year-old male was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and a white 17-year-old male was charged with assault in the first degree. The four males were arrested and charged after they stabbed five employees of Club DNA multiple times and caused life-threatening injuries. The victims were removed to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where they were listed in stable condition. Anti-Crime Officer Tice of the 114th Precinct made the arrests. Six other individuals were arrested for disorderly conduct. 114th Precinct Blotter Sunday, November 27: • A 32-year-old white male was charged with criminal mischief and assault after he attempted to enter an off-duty taxicab at 55th Street and Northern Boulevard. When the driver refused to accept the fare, the perpetrator broke the cab side view mirror. The driver got out of the cab and into a shoving match with the perpetrator, who kicked him in the groin. • In the course of a large fight at 35th Street and Broadway, a 19-year-old Hispanic man was charged with obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, harassment, disorderly conduct and fighting when he refused a lawful order to stop and then pushed, shoved and kicked the officer trying to arrest him in an effort to evade arrest. He also refused to be handcuffed. • After he was observed by security personnel removing merchandise from shelves in a store at 42-02 Northern Blvd., concealing the items in his pockets and walking past the store cash register without paying for them, a 40-year-old white male was arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny. • A 14-year-old white male was observed making graffiti as he wrote the word “MONO” in blue ink on a brick wall at a driveway entrance at 31-19 23rd Ave. He was charged with criminal mischief, graffiti and possession of a graffiti instrument. • A 21-year-old black male was charged with criminal possession of marijuana after he was found in possession of a lit marijuana cigarette in open view in a public place, namely a playground at the corner of 46th Street and 30th Road. He was searched and found to have 24 plastic bags containing marijuana in his front pocket as well. • A 25-year-old Hispanic male was found to be in violation of a local law when he was observed urinating in a public park on 34th Avenue between Vernon Boulevard and 9th Street in public view. • A black male 47 years old was arrested for criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and obstructing traffic in the municipal parking lot at 31-18 Broadway after he was instructed several times by officers not to remain on city property. • After he threatened a victim with a firearm in an attempt to steal the victim’s property at the corner of 14th Street and 30th Drive, a 15-year-old black male was charged with robbery. Monday, November 28: • A 15-year-old Hispanic female punched a victim about the face, causing a small laceration to the forehead, bruising and substantial pain. The perpetrator was charged with assault and harassment after an investigation was conducted at the 114th Precinct station house. • An officer, responding to a radio run of an assault in progress, observed multiple bags of marijuana and a cocaine-like substance in plain view on a television stand in a room occupied by a 26-year-old Hispanic male. A perpetrator was arrested for the assault and the Hispanic man came to the 114th Precinct, turned himself in and provided a written confession to police. Tuesday, November 29: • A 41-year-old white male was arrested for assault with a weapon, harassment and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17 after he stabbed his wife in the left hand with a pencil, causing a puncture wound and considerable pain, and threatened to kill his wife and daughter if they called police. When police arrived at the scene, 23-32 33rd St., the young daughter of the perpetrator and the victim told police the perpetrator grabbed her arm and tried to take the telephone away from her. The child said she was afraid of her father and feared for her mother’s safety. • A 25-year-old black male was charged with unlicensed operator, driving a motor vehicle without insurance and failure to obey traffic devices when he was observed driving a green Ford and failing to stop at a stop sign and at a steady red light at the corner of 32nd Street and Astoria Boulevard. A traffic check revealed the perpetrator was driving with a suspended license. • A 34-year-old Asian male was charged with menacing, harassment, disorderly conduct and violent behavior after his mother told police he put his hands around her throat, began to choke her and declared that he wanted to kill her. The incident occurred at 30-86 32nd St. • A 21-year-old black male was charged with assault and harassment when he punched a victim in the face, causing a cut above the right eye, at the corner of 30th Avenue and 32nd Street. Sunday, December 4: • A 20-year-old male Hispanic was charged with robbery and causing serious injury, use of a dangerous instrument in a robbery causing physical injury, and assault with intent to cause physical injury with a weapon after he ran up behind a female victim and struck her in the face with a blunt instrument, causing a large laceration needing 10 stitches and a fractured skull in an attempt to remove her purse. The perpetrator was arrested after Police Officer Weingartner showed a photo array to the victim and she identified him in a lineup. • A 19-year-old male black was charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest in the rear of 14-30 30th Dr. where a stolen 2000 white Lincoln automobile was being picked up by a tow company. The perpetrator ran up to the tow truck with keys for the vehicle asked the tow truck operator to drop the car. An officer responded and found that the vehicle had been reported stolen from the 109th Precinct on December 2. The perpetrator resisted arrest while being handcuffed.
