‘Dodger Blue: The Championship Years’ DVD Debuts

The documentary captures the magic of Dodgers history, weaving together exciting game film, rare and historic footage, and new interviews with players past and present, including Duke Snider, Steve Garvey, Ron Cey, Bill Russell and, of course, Tommy Lasorda.
Shout! Factory of Los Angeles and Major League Baseball Productions, a division of Major League Baseball, have reached a three-year agreement under which Shout! Factory will release four Major League Baseball DVD titles per year. The first release will be “Dodger Blue: The Championship Years”, a DVD that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Dodgers’ first World Series championship and highlights championship seasons, players and moments throughout the club’s history to the present day. “Dodger Blue: The Championship Years”, priced at $19.98 (suggested retail price), was available May 17 and includes bonus features and a Spanish language track. Shout! Factory will release three additional Major League Baseball titles this year, including “The Official 2005 World Series” DVD.

Future Major League Baseball Productions titles to be released by Shout! Factory during the course of the deal will include historical documentaries, instructional programs, all-star player and bloopers DVDs. Continuing the long tradition (since 1943) of World Series program releases, the fourth title to be released each year will be “The Official World Series” DVD, detailing the history, background, and untold stories of the two opposing teams, featuring interviews with coaches and players. Each title will benefit from the expansive Major League Baseball Productions film archive, which features more than 100 years of baseball footage as well as unparalleled behind-the-scenes access to games and practices, yielding inside interviews found nowhere else.

“Dodger Blue: The Championship Years” follows the ball club from its historic 1955 triumph over then cross-town rivals the New York Yankees to its present-day standing as the club with the third most wins in Major League Baseball history. The documentary captures the magic of Dodgers history, weaving together exciting game film, rare and historic footage, and new interviews with players past and present, including Duke Snider, Steve Garvey, Ron Cey, Bill Russell and, of course, Tommy Lasorda.

The DVD also celebrates Dodgers greats throughout the past 50 years, ranging from Jackie Robinson and Sandy Koufax to Mike Piazza and Eric Gagne. Additionally, the DVD extras include short biographies on Dodgers “Hall of Famers,” “Stuff You Didn’t Hear on Television” such as an animated (and microphoned!) Tommy Lasorda on the mound and great plays and extended interviews.
