Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company Serves Real Thing
While bagel shops are ubiquitous in New York, Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company stands out above the rest. What makes them different and far superior to other shops is that absolutely everything is made the old-fashioned way, from scratch.
Everything in the shop, from the bagels to all the delicious spreads, salads, soups, muffins, croissants and freshly ground coffee, is made on the premises—the bagels, which are fresh each day, from an authentic and time-consuming recipe. Few people know how much labor is involved in making the perfect bagel. It’s a long, detailed process that starts at 3 a.m. with hand made dough. After the dough has raised, it is formed into bagels which then go through a boiling water bath. They are then refrigerated for a precise amount of time before being baked golden, both crisp and chewy in texture, and full of satisfying flavor. Brooklyn Bagel makes at least 14 kinds of bagels each day, including whole wheat, cinnamon raisin, onion, egg, poppy seed, whole wheat with everything and more. Top one of these enormous creations with a smear of their hand-mixed cream cheese spreads or salads.
Unlike many bagel shops that buy 5-gallon tubs of pre-mixed spreads, Brooklyn Bagel painstakingly makes their own varieties each day for optimum flavor and freshness. You’ll love the vegetable cream cheese with real veggies, Nova lox, walnut raisin, olive and pimento, sun-dried tomato and tofu cream cheese. It doesn’t stop there. For lunch, top one of their delicious bagels with homemade chicken salad, tuna salad or egg salad. Chicken cutlets and cold cuts are also available.
In addition, Brooklyn Bagel makes different homemade soups each day. The chicken soup with vegetable noodles is fantastic, and their soups are never greasy or salty because they’re all homemade and, like the bagels, sold only on the day they’re made. Soups are served with crunchy bagel chips, perfect for dunking. Wrap sandwiches are another popular item—I give kudos to the sirloin roast beef wrap with lettuce and tomato. Freshly tossed salads such as chicken Caesar can be eaten in or taken out.
Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company has a sparkling clean dining area with marble-topped tables that make eating in a pleasure.
