Queens Marine Aids In Katrina Rescue Efforts

Corporal John Forero USMC, an Assault Amphibian Vehicle crew chief, uses hand signals to communicate to another crew member while his AAV floats through the city streets of Eastern New Orleans. Forero is a Queens native and member of Bravo Company, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion, 4th Marine Division, attached to Special Purpose Marine Air/Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Katrina. The nearly 2,000 Marines of Special Purpose MAGTF Katrina have moved in with air and amphibious crafts to aid those stranded in the area and conduct ongoing missions to find more survivors and to deliver supplies to those in need, continue to search for survivors and deliver food and water. They are headquartered at Naval Air Station/Joint Reserve Base Belle Chasse, Louisiana outside of New Orleans, supporting Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
